Description
The Mechanical, Aerospace, and Acoustical Engineering Department at the University of Hartford invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Mechanical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. While applicants from all areas of Mechanical Engineering are welcome, preference will be given to candidates with expertise in the general area of Mechanical Design, including machine and mechanism design, and/or mechatronics, and secondarily in solid mechanics, and/or manufacturing. The qualified applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree, excellent potential and dedication to teaching, research, service, and professional activities.
Applications are sought from candidates who can help the department conduct innovative research and provide world-class engineering education. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching, and/or service to the inclusive excellence in the academic community. Review of applications will begin by December 1, 2025 and continue until the position is filled.
Requirements
The successful applicant will ordinarily teach courses in the ABET accredited undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Program and the two graduate programs, a MS in ME and Master of Engineering in ME, which may change based on departmental needs. The department also has undergraduate ABET accredited programs in Aerospace Engineering and Acoustical Engineering & Music. Successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as related laboratories, collaborate with students on independent research, supervise student projects, and actively participate in service activities. There may also be opportunities to teach our innovative general education and interdisciplinary courses.
An active scholarly/research agenda with peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or other accomplishments are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department, college, and university typically includes advising students, contributing to student recruitment and retention, overseeing undergraduate research projects, and perhaps serving as the faculty advisor for a student organization, or other service activities. Required Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is required; ABDs will be considered providing the candidate can document a degree completion date that is prior to the position start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Strong interest in curriculum development, including both lecture based and laboratory based courses.
Industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
Mechanical engineering teaching experience at an ABET-accredited program with demonstrated ability to provide effective hands-on education.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to create an inclusive and equitable environment that celebrates individual identities, embraces diverse intellectual perspectives, and fosters a culture of respect and belonging.
